Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Gets Modding Approval
Great news for fans of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic! Ubisoft has given the green light to a group of modders to bring new life to this action RPG.
A game from Arkane Studios and Valve, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic was a hit when it first came out. Now, with the approval, the game will get a major boost and attract even more players. It will possibly be one of the best Xbox One games on launch.
Xbox One Games – The Game’s Origins
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is the sequel to Arkane Studios’ first game, Arx Fatalis. By joining hands with Valve, they used their Source engine to power the game.
However, finding a publisher for the sequel, Arx Fatalis 2, was difficult due to the first game’s low success. Ubisoft took a chance on the project and added it to their popular Might and Magic series.
The game was also on Xbox 360, thanks to Ubisoft Annecy. Even though there were average reviews upon release in 2006, it gained a lot of following.
Revitalizing Through Modding
Now, after 17 years, a group of modders led by David Wiltos finally have permission to breathe new life into Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
So, they will do just that using a special software development kit (SDK). This SDK will make modding the game much easier and more accessible as well.
Do note that mods are legal, but making an unofficial SDK means releasing a huge portion of a game’s code, which can raise legal issues. That’s why Ubisoft’s approval was key for this project to move forward.
Ubisoft’s Approval
After two years of discussions, Ubisoft has officially given their approval to the project. This means that the developers can now release any mods they want.
In a recent update on Mod DB, Wiltos said that his team will waste no time and is already working on a toolkit that will allow fans to add ray-tracing to Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
The Toolkit
The toolkit being developed by the modding team is based on Nvidia’s RTX Remix toolkit. This means that mods created using this toolkit will only be compatible with modern GeForce GPUs that support ray-tracing technology.
In addition to that, modders are also working on a co-op mode for Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Initially, their goal was solely to create the co-op mode.
However, due to the huge interest from the community, they will expand their efforts and develop a full modding SDK.

With Ubisoft’s official endorsement, the upcoming SDK is expected to bring new energy to Dark Messiah of Might and Magic’s modding scene.
