The Unveiling of Elder Scrolls VI Overshadowing Starfield?
Bethesda has been laboring on Starfield for over two decades now. The game is finally ready to come out, and as the company was enjoying its popularity, it did something unexpected. Yet, another game under their banner has been stealing the limelight, and this time it is none other than Elder Scrolls VI. As far as the drama around Xbox Series X games goes, this one takes the cake for us.
Xbox Series X Games – The Long-Awaited Sequel
The Elder Scrolls VI is a sequel to the highly popular game Skyrim, and if you know anything about that title, then you can imagine the hype this reveal got. The revelation at E3 2018 sent ripples of excitement through the gaming community, and right now, it is hurting Starfield.
A Memory Still Fresh
The memory of the cinematic trailer unveiling Tamriel and the logo of The Elder Scrolls VI is still fresh in our minds. Although Bethesda remained quiet about the specifics, the mere confirmation of its development was enough to appease eager fans.
However, even after half a decade since that announcement, we are still in the dark about this game. All we have is a logo and a promise that it’s coming. The setting, storyline, and release date are all still a huge mystery.
A Look Back
To put things into perspective, Skyrim, the last mainline entry in The Elder Scrolls series (excluding re-releases or spin-offs), is over 12 years old now! Recent legal documents from Microsoft’s court dispute with the FTC suggest that The Elder Scrolls VI might not see daylight until 2026 at the earliest. So, this implies a potential wait of 15 years for the next game in the series.
Was It Too Soon?
Many fans believe that the timing for the reveal of The Elder Scrolls VI was not right, and it appears that Todd Howard, Bethesda’s top executive, concurs. He feels that the announcement of Starfield saw a negative impact from this one.
A Casual Reveal?
In an interview with GQ (credit to PC Gamer), when asked if he would have announced The Elder Scrolls VI differently or if it was revealed too early, Howard said, “I have asked myself that a lot. I don’t know. I probably would’ve announced it more casually.”
While we can only hope for some official updates from Bethesda in the future, we aren’t holding our breath. The Elder Scrolls VI is going to come on Xbox Series X|S and PC, but we are not sure when.
Xbox Series X Games – Focusing on Starfield
Meanwhile, Starfield is coming out on 6 September 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. However, those who have pre-ordered the Premium or Constellation Edition can expect an earlier release date of 1 September.
So, for now, get ready for a space adventure unlike what any other Xbox Series X games offer. Of course, you can spend the waiting time on another space adventure as well, and yes, we are referring to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
