Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 May Push PCs to Their Thermal Limits

CD Projekt Red, the creators of the first-person action RPG Cyberpunk 2077, have issued a warning about their forthcoming 2.0 update. They’ve revealed that this update might cause some PCs to overheat due to the game’s resource-intensive nature. The game is quite famous for pushing PCs to their limits anyway. Xbox One Games – A Rocky Start, A Promising Future

Since its release in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has had its share of ups and downs. Despite a rocky start marred by bugs and gameplay issues, the game expanded to Xbox Series X/S and other consoles in 2022.

Not giving up to initial setbacks, CD Projekt Red now says that the Phantom Liberty expansion will be out in September 2022.

With the content update set to be released later this month, the developers felt it was time to alert fans about potential technical issues.

Filip Pierściński, CD Projekt Red’s lead scene programmer, has stated that the 2.0 update could cause overheating in some PCs.

He specifically mentioned PC cooling systems and warned that the content update and Phantom Liberty expansion would be very resource intensive.

He suggested that players benchmark their setups on Cinebench for a smooth gaming experience.

The Role of Cooling Systems

Cooling systems play a vital role in maintaining the performance and longevity of PCs. They prevent overheating by dissipating the heat generated by the PC’s components.

However, if a game or an update needs too much juice, then it can push the PC and its cooling system to their limits. That will likely be the case for a lot of people who are already playing the game with medium or high settings.

Pierściński has been actively engaging with the Cyberpunk 2077 community on Twitter. He has been answering technical questions about the upcoming update and DLC. Given the amount of content being added to the base game, it’s not surprising that it will be more demanding.

Anticipation Builds

Fans of Cyberpunk 2077 are eagerly awaiting the release of Phantom Liberty and the 2.0 update. Despite potential technical issues, they’re hoping for a smoother launch than the base game’s initial release. Of course, given the history of the game, we will only know that for sure once it comes out.
