Xbox Series S Games Price – Xbox CEO ‘Upset with Himself’ After Redfall’s Failed Launch

Xbox CEO Phil Spencer expressed regret and disappointment over the negative response to the launch of Redfall. It is a new vampire shooter game from Bethesda’s Arkane Austin studio. The game has poor reviews, and there is a lot of criticism for bugs and performance issues. In an interview with the Xbox podcast, Xcast Spencer admits that he’s upset with himself. This was for the quality issues and the critical reception of the game. So, it could lose its worth for its Xbox Series S games price at launch.

Xbox Series S Games Price – Disappointing the Xbox Community

Spencer said, “There’s nothing more difficult for me than disappointing the Xbox community. Just to watch the community lose confidence, be disappointed, I’m disappointed, I’m upset with myself.”

Redfall’s aim was to be a big hit as Microsoft’s first $70 Xbox Series X/S game. Additionally, it was also Arkane Austin’s next project after their successful immersive sims Dishonored: Death of the Outsider and Prey.

Creative Aspirations versus Quality and Execution

When asked what went wrong, Spencer says that there were quality and execution issues. While those shouldn’t be there, he would never push against the creative aspirations of their teams.

Microsoft wants to provide a creative platform for teams to push their ability and aspirations. This approach may under-deliver for some fans.

However, Spencer believes it is better to let teams have the freedom to create the games they want to make.

Lack of First-Party Exclusives

2022 was a quiet year when it comes to Microsoft’s big first-party exclusives. So, Redfall was there to mark the end of a year-long drought after Halo Infinite.

However, the game has not been that good so far. So, people had concerns that Xbox may not have many blockbuster games coming soon.

Game Pass is a service that provides access to a wide variety of smaller or older games. However, it seems to have hit a snag too, and the lack of new, big-name games may be to blame.

Should There Have Been a Delay in Redfall’s Launch?

Spencer drew a distinction between criticism of the game’s level of polish versus its underlying gameplay and design. He acknowledged that there are quality issues that need to be addressed.

However, people might not be aware of the game’s creative vision in its current state. Still, Spencer did not believe that delaying the game would have solved the problem.

Xbox Series S Games Price – Commitment to Redfall

Microsoft and Arkane remain committed to Redfall and are working on updates to address bugs and add features. Spencer stated that the game’s high price of $70 is not an excuse for the poor launch.

So, they certainly will work to make it great for its Xbox Series S games price. In the meanwhile, you can try some other great new options like the new Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
